Country-style Patio with Flowing Lines in Frederick, Colorado

People enjoying a gas fire-pit and paver patio in Frederick Colorado

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Before we started, our clients for this project had a concrete pad off their back sliding glass door. They wanted their pad veneered in pavers, a large patio to enjoy with their family, and a walkway from the patio to their shed and side yard entrance. Because of the grade, we had to put in a retaining wall to the west and that wall transitioned into a grade wall that surrounds the majority of the patio. In addition to the patio space, we installed some large rocks for building a natural transition to the landscaping and grass. Lighting was also installed around the walls, along the steps, and along the walkway.

WHAT WE AND THE CLIENT LIKE BEST

The back yard view is spectacular with views of Mount Meeker and Longs Peak, and that alone called out for a proper patio for the family to enjoy. For a family with kids, the patio serves as multi-functional and flex space for dining, homework, reading, and entertaining.

Our clients use this patio as an escape and a quick date night where they talk about their day as night sets in. They mentioned they use this space as much as the kitchen during the warm months. When they’re not on the patio, the view from the kitchen window down onto the stone below is relaxing. They’ve come to realize that although the patio was an investment, it is difficult to put a value on all the additional quality time they’ve had outside because of the patio space.

WHY DOES THIS DESIGN RESONATE WITH A LOT OF PEOPLE?

This patio is referenced frequently when clients request a consultation with us. The country/old-world style of this patio with smooth, flowing curves appeals to the eye. The bench walls surrounding the space give added dimension, offer a lot of additional seating for large gatherings, and provide a sense of privacy. The lighting we installed gives a nice sense of warmth regardless of whether the fire pit is in use.

Functionally, many people see that this bean-shaped design allows for several distinct spaces: a small seating area off the sliding glass door, a larger seating/dining area along one side of the patio, a lounging area nearest the house, and a relaxing by the fire-pit area. These distinct spaces allow for a large gathering or as the homeowner stated, flex space where individual members of the family can do their own thing.
